GUNET is the campus network of Gonzaga University, the private Jesuit university in Spokane, Washington. RIS sees a single IPv4 prefix — the whole of 147.222.0.0/16, 65,536 addresses — no IPv6, and 4 observed BGP neighbours.

What it's used for

Campus connectivity: academic and administrative systems, student residences, wireless across campus, library and learning platforms, and the university's research and teaching computing. The entire allocation is announced as one clean /16, registered to Gonzaga University itself under the netblock handle GUNET-NET — no deaggregates, no third-party registrants, nothing borrowed. Four BGP neighbours against 65k addresses is the classic university profile: a large, historically generous address allocation, a small number of upstreams (typically a commodity provider plus a regional research-and-education network), and no interest in selling transit to anyone.

An entire /16 for a university of Gonzaga's size looks extravagant by modern standards, and it is — but only in hindsight. Class-B-sized allocations were routine for higher education when the space was handed out, and a campus that received one has had no reason to give it back. The practical consequence is that Gonzaga has never had to NAT its way out of address scarcity, which is also why the AS has no IPv6 announcement at all.

Notable

The handle is a trap worth naming. GUNET is also the name of the Greek Universities Network, and academic handles of this shape invite exactly that confusion. The prefix registration settles it: 147.222.0.0/16 belongs to Gonzaga University in Spokane, not to anything in Greece.
