NETSONIC is Netsonic, a Green Bay, Wisconsin hosting company: shared and dedicated web hosting, cloud and virtual servers, colocation and disaster recovery out of its own local datacentre.

What it's used for

RIS shows 2 announced IPv4 prefixes and 8,192 addresses, no IPv6, and 1 observed neighbour. The two prefixes are clean /20s — 216.235.64.0/20 and 66.180.160.0/20 — each registered to Netsonic itself (NETSONIC, NETSONIC-BLK2). Nothing third-party appears anywhere in the registrant list, so the leased-address shape is absent.

The single neighbour is the load-bearing detail. Two contiguous /20s is enough address space to be mistaken for an access network, but an eyeball ISP or a transit carrier of that size would show more than one BGP adjacency. One upstream, two aggregates, no deaggregation is the profile of a datacentre operator: the addresses are not distributed to subscriber lines, they are handed to servers sitting in one building, so there is no traffic-engineering reason to split the blocks or multi-home aggressively.

Reverse DNS agrees. The sampled address resolves to cl-cp-fw01.netsonic.net — a firewall in the company's own domain, named the way infrastructure is named, not the way subscriber pools are.

Notable

Netsonic has run out of Green Bay since 1996 and today markets colocation, cloud VMs and ASIC-miner hosting. That last line of business is worth knowing when reading traffic from this AS: some of the space is rented compute belonging to third parties, so the holder is a small hosting company even where individual addresses behave like anything a tenant chooses to run.
