AS11481 AS-UTRGV

AS-UTRGV is the campus network of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the UT System institution serving the lower Rio Grande Valley of south Texas from campuses in Edinburg, Brownsville and Harlingen. RIS currently sees 15 IPv4 prefixes (about 73,700 addresses), one IPv6 /48, and just 3 observed BGP neighbours.

What it's used for

Ordinary university campus connectivity: student and staff access, residence halls, administrative systems, and the public-facing web and mail estate. The address inventory is dominated by the legacy 129.113.0.0/16, announced both whole and as its two halves, alongside a block of space out of 67.207.0.0/19. Every prefix in the pack's registrant list resolves to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley itself, so this is genuinely self-held space rather than a carrier assignment or leased inventory. Three neighbours against ~73k addresses is the classic end-site shape: a large user population homed to a small number of upstreams, with no sign of transit or wholesale activity.

Notable

The reverse DNS still carries the university's former identity. Sampled addresses in 129.113.0.0/16 answer under utpa.edu, the domain of the University of Texas–Pan American, one of the two institutions merged in 2015 to create UTRGV. The routing moved to the new university; parts of the DNS never got the memo.
