AS11418 LIGHTEDGE-AS-03

LIGHTEDGE-AS-03 is one of several ASes held by LightEdge Solutions, the Des Moines-founded colocation and enterprise-cloud provider with data centres across the US Midwest and South. This particular AS is tiny: a single /24 (216.243.213.0/24) plus an IPv6 /36 (2607:f190::/36), behind one observed neighbour.

What it's used for

Hosted enterprise workloads in a LightEdge facility. The /24 is registered in ARIN as LIGHTEDGE-BLK-002 to LightEdge Solutions, so the announcer holds the space. The reverse DNS names what actually sits in it: sampled addresses resolve to hk-oma5.hakco.com and hk-oma133.hakco.com. hakco.com is The Harry A. Koch Co. (FNIC), an Omaha-based insurance brokerage, and oma is Omaha, which is where LightEdge runs a data centre in the former Cabela's facility at Papillion, Nebraska.

That is a textbook colocation reading: provider-owned address space, provider-registered, carrying a named customer's servers, with the customer's own domain in the PTR and the provider's site code in the hostname. rDNS shows what space carries, never who holds it, and here the two are different companies for exactly the expected reason.

Notable

One /24 and one neighbour makes this a leaf, not a backbone. LightEdge's main routing lives on its other AS numbers; -AS-03 looks like a per-site or per-segment AS carrying a small slice of customer space rather than the company's core network. Judging LightEdge's size from this AS alone would badly understate it, which is a reminder that an AS number is a routing object, not a company.

The /36 of IPv6 against a single /24 of IPv4 is generous provisioning typical of a provider block awaiting customer subdelegation.
