UW-ASN-01 is UltraWISP, LLC, a small locally-owned fixed-wireless internet provider based in Parsons, Tucker County, West Virginia. It sells high-speed internet (fixed wireless and fibre), VoIP and IT services into a rural area that larger carriers under-serve.

What it's used for

This is an eyeball access network, and a tiny one. RIS sees a single IPv4 prefix, 199.201.225.0/24 — 256 addresses — no IPv6, and one observed BGP neighbour. One upstream and one /24 is about as small as a routed ISP gets: the AS number exists so the operator can keep its own address space when it changes or adds transit, not because it needs BGP for scale.

Notable

The reverse DNS is what confirms the role rather than merely the owner. Sampled addresses resolve to ip-199-201-225-5.ultrawisp.com and ip-199-201-225-133.ultrawisp.com — a generated, per-address naming template under the operator's own domain, which is how subscriber-facing pools are named. The prefix is also registered straight back to the holder in ARIN (ULTRAWISP-IPV4-24-01, org UltraWISP, LLC), so registrant and announcer are the same party. Self-registered space plus first-party subscriber rDNS is the signature of a real operator running its own customers, and it rules out the leased-space pattern.

Interesting

A single /24 behind one transit link is a reminder that AS numbers are not a size ranking. A WISP in a county of a few thousand households needs portable addresses and a BGP session exactly as much as a large ISP does, just far fewer of them.
