AS11161 DIGITALVIRT

DIGITALVIRT is a small VPS provider that sells cheap virtual servers in Hong Kong, Japan and the United States, marketed mainly to a Chinese-speaking audience. Despite the low AS number, ARIN registered AS11161 to it in December 2022 — this is a recycled number, not a 1990s network.

What it's used for

Virtual-server hosting. RIS observes a single announced IPv4 prefix, 151.241.128.0/24 (256 addresses), a single IPv6 prefix, 2400:8a20:130::/48, and 3 observed BGP neighbours. That is about as small as a routed hosting operation gets: one /24 of v4, an APNIC-range /48 of v6, and a couple of upstreams. The company's own material describes VPS plans out of Hong Kong and Japan, so the AS is the routing wrapper around a modest fleet of virtualisation hosts rather than a network of any scale.

The announced /24 is not registered to DigitalVirt. RDAP puts it under IPXO, the IPv4 leasing marketplace, which means the operator is renting the address space it announces rather than holding an allocation. That is common and legal in the budget-VPS market, and combined with the small footprint and the recent ASN registration it says something useful about the network: the addresses are a rented input, so their registry-level identity carries no information about who is behind any individual IP inside the block.

Interesting

The ARIN org address, 30 N Gould St, Sheridan, Wyoming, is a registered-agent mail-drop used by very large numbers of unrelated companies. It says nothing about where the network operates — which, by DigitalVirt's own product pages, is Asia rather than Wyoming. Between a leased prefix, a mailbox registration and a recycled AS number, none of the registry metadata here should be used for geolocation.
