Notable

The reverse DNS is the most informative part of the pack, because it shows the network split by function per branch. Sampled addresses resolve to names like ayosco-public.lapl.org and ayosco-staff.lapl.org, buscen-staff.lapl.org, hydepk-other.lapl.org and wifi-05.lapl.net — a branch code plus a role. That is a library system carrying two distinct populations on the same AS: staff and back-office systems on one set of addresses, public-access terminals and patron Wi-Fi on another. Addresses in the public/Wi-Fi role behave like a shared institutional guest network, which is worth knowing before treating any of this space as belonging to a single identifiable user.

Interesting

Two of the announced /24s (173.196.25.0/24, 173.196.27.0/24) still answer with biz.spectrum.com reverse DNS — the default naming of the upstream cable operator's business service, on space that the library nonetheless announces from its own AS. It is a clean illustration of the rule that rDNS shows what a block carries and who serves it, never who holds it: the same AS shows first-party lapl.org names on some blocks and its carrier's boilerplate on others.
