SORENSON-99 is held by Sorenson Communications, Inc., the Salt Lake City company that operates Sorenson VRS — the largest US Video Relay Service, which connects Deaf and hard-of-hearing users to hearing callers through ASL interpreters over videophones. VRS providers are funded through the FCC's Telecommunications Relay Services fund under the ADA.

What it's used for

The private network of a single communications company. RIS observes 10 IPv4 prefixes totalling 2,560 addresses and no IPv6 — ten /24s, most of them clustered in 209.169.224.0/19-adjacent space (209.169.226, .230, .231, .238, .240, .243, .244) with three more in 65.37.x.

Every one of those prefixes is registered to SORENSONVRS, Sorenson's own ARIN object. Self-registered space announced by the holder's own AS: a real operator on its own inventory, with no third-party blocks and nothing that resembles a leasing arrangement.

Three observed BGP neighbours is a service company's edge, not a carrier's. Sorenson buys transit; it does not sell it.

Notable

The interesting thing here is what the network isn't. Sorenson is a telecommunications provider in the regulatory sense — it operates a relay service under FCC rules — and it puts videophones in end users' homes. But the routed footprint is only 2,560 addresses, which is nowhere near enough to number a subscriber base. Its endpoints therefore live on ordinary consumer broadband, reaching Sorenson's platform over the public internet; the AS carries the platform side of that relationship — call routing, interpreter centres, and the corporate estate.

That distinction matters for classification. A company can be a phone company by regulation and an enterprise by network shape, and the routing table is the honest witness: this is a mid-size private network, not an access network.
