AS11118 COMTECK

COMTECK is ComTeck of Indiana, a small rural fibre ISP registered at 210 N. Main, Sweetser, Indiana. It sells symmetrical fibre internet from 25 Mbps to 1 Gbps to homes and businesses in Sweetser, Converse, Somerset, Jalapa, Herbst, Amboy and the surrounding rural area, along with static IPs and long-distance voice.

What it's used for

Rural access. RIS observes exactly one IPv4 prefix, 64.184.48.0/20 (4,096 addresses), and no IPv6. The block is registered to COMTECK in ARIN, so the space and the AS that announces it belong to the same company — a real operator on its own allocation.

A single /20 behind one observed BGP neighbour is a coherent picture: one upstream, one contiguous allocation, one small service territory. There is no peering fabric here and no sign of the AS carrying anyone else's traffic.

The sampled reverse DNS shows what a small-town ISP actually carries. pulse.comteck.com is the operator's own infrastructure; mail.norrisinsurance.com is a local business's mail server living inside the ISP's space. That second record is the interesting one — it is the fingerprint of a rural provider that is simultaneously the town's broadband company and the place the local insurance agency's mail happens to run.

That mixed use is typical of the small independent ISPs that still hold four-figure AS numbers across the American Midwest: too small to peer, big enough to need their own /20, and serving a subscriber base measured in a handful of townships. The lack of IPv6 is likewise characteristic of the size class rather than a deliberate stance.
