AS11070 META-AS

META-AS has nothing to do with Meta Platforms. It belongs to Metanet Communications, Inc., a New York colocation and hosting provider registered at 111 Eighth Avenue — the Manhattan carrier hotel — and trading as metanethosting.com. The AS number is also a recycled one: ARIN dates its registration to September 2013, so the low number says nothing about the age of the business.

What it's used for

Colocation, bare-metal servers and VPS hosting. Metanet announces ten IPv4 /24s (2,560 addresses) across two ranges — 192.225.163.0–192.225.175.0 and 107.182.0.0–107.182.13.0 — and no IPv6 is seen in RIS.

The ARIN registrants are the story. Some prefixes sit under the operator's own METANET-01 and METANET-04 handles, while others are reassigned to RACK3, RACK4, QTD-02 and TAGUCHI-1. Handles named after racks are exactly what a colocation provider produces: customer sub-assignments carved out of the provider's own allocations. This looks superficially like the multi-registrant pattern that flags an address-leasing operation, but it is not — the parent blocks are Metanet's own, and the children are its colo tenants, not unrelated third-party networks in other RIRs.

Notable

Reverse DNS shows what the racks actually carry: one distinct domain per address, across an assortment of low-profile names on cheap TLDs (.website, .ws, .shop, .xyz) with no relationship to each other or to Metanet. That is the fingerprint of budget VPS and shared-hosting customers, each pointing a throwaway domain at its own IP — content hosting, not enterprise infrastructure and certainly not end users.

Interesting

Only one observed BGP neighbour, despite selling IP transit in its marketing. A single upstream is a thin foundation for a transit product, and it is a good example of why inventory beats marketing when the two disagree.
