IHC-NET is Intermountain Health Care, Inc. — Intermountain Health, the large not-for-profit hospital system headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is an enterprise network: three prefixes totalling about 66,300 IPv4 addresses, no IPv6 in the observed routing, and only two BGP neighbours.

What it's used for

Almost all of the address space is a single legacy /16, 159.212.0.0/16, carrying the health system's own operations across its hospitals and clinics in Utah, Idaho and the surrounding states: clinical and electronic-health-record systems, imaging, laboratories, administrative sites and staff connectivity. None of it is sold as a service. The AS exists so a system that cannot tolerate renumbering or a single carrier failure can hold provider-independent addresses and multi-home them, which is why two upstream neighbours is all it needs.

Notable

The /16 and the /24 are registered to IHCNET, and the remaining /23 to the handle LMC-2 — which RDAP shows is registered to Intermountain Health Care itself, at its Salt Lake City address. That is worth spelling out, because an unfamiliar handle on one of an AS's prefixes is exactly the pattern that signals leased or brokered space elsewhere in this range. Here it is simply an old internal network name for one of the system's own facilities, and its 1994 registration date fits a legacy hospital block.

Interesting

Sixty-six thousand addresses behind just two neighbours is the shape of a large private enterprise, not a provider. Address count alone would put this network in the same bracket as a mid-sized ISP; the neighbour count immediately says otherwise, and it is the better signal of the two.
