CAPGE-HOSTING-MRO is registered to Capgemini America, Inc., the US arm of the French IT services, consulting and outsourcing group. As the handle says, this is a hosting AS: the network behind Capgemini's managed infrastructure and outsourced application estate, not a corporate office network.

What it's used for

RIS sees 41 announced IPv4 prefixes covering 10,496 addresses, no IPv6, and 7 observed neighbours. Seven adjacencies rules out any carrier role. What makes this AS distinctive is the composition of the space: mostly /24s, drawn from both ARIN ranges (192.113., 204.153., 205.223., 206.208., 198.184.) and RIPE ranges (80.90., 80.253., 193.234., 194.11., 192.176.), announced together from one AS.

Scattered /24s from multiple RIRs is also the shape of an address broker, so it is worth saying why this is not one. The prefixes are registered to the holder rather than to unrelated third parties, the holder is a large, entirely findable multinational, and the sampled reverse DNS is first-party: mx.sii.fr.capgemini.com, a mail exchanger in the company's own French sub-zone. A global consultancy that has absorbed many national IT businesses over decades legitimately ends up holding blocks in several registries and announcing them from one hosting AS.

Notable

• The single rDNS sample is a mail relay, i.e. infrastructure. Everything visible here is server-side: managed hosting for client workloads and Capgemini's own shared services. There is no sign of end-user access space.
• The US-registered holder announcing European space with French-named infrastructure is a clean example of why registry country is a poor proxy for where a network actually operates.
