CLARITYCONNECT is Clarity Connect Inc, an independent internet provider based in Ithaca, New York. Founded in 1995, it serves rural and underserved parts of upstate New York with fixed wireless and fibre, selling to homes and small businesses alike.

What it's used for

Subscriber access. RIS shows 15 announced IPv4 prefixes carrying 3,840 addresses, no IPv6, and 3 observed neighbours. Fourteen of the fifteen prefixes are consecutive /24s out of 209.150.224.0-ish space, plus one unrelated 23.133.160.0/24. A handful of neighbours against a few thousand addresses is the signature of an edge network buying transit, not a carrier selling it.

The reverse DNS is unusually informative and it points squarely at end users. Sampled addresses resolve to clarityconnect.net and clarityconnect.com names of three kinds: automatically generated per-IP names (cci-209150226133), named site or tower records (wav-sayre, dewitt-tedcrane), and staff or institutional pools (icstaff-*). Mixed in is at least one customer domain, enterprise.home.lalley.com. That is a small regional ISP's address space: subscriber CPE, tower and relay gear, and a few hosted customers, all wearing the operator's default rDNS.

Notable

Because the customer base spans homes, farms, schools and small businesses, this is genuinely mixed-use space rather than cleanly residential or cleanly commercial, which is common for rural WISPs and worth remembering before geolocating or typing any single address from it.

Interesting

lalley.com matches the surname of one of the company's founders, so one of the sampled addresses is plausibly a connection at the founder's own house, the sort of detail that only survives in reverse DNS.
