VASTNET is Vastnet Corp, a small independent operator on Long Island, New York, registered with ARIN in 1997. It describes itself as a colocation and fixed-wireless (microwave) internet provider running facilities in Melville, NY and Denver, CO.

What it's used for

A compact, self-contained network. RIS sees 4 announced IPv4 prefixes carrying 4,096 addresses and no IPv6, against 3 observed BGP neighbours — a handful of prefixes, a handful of peers, a single business.

The reverse DNS is entirely first-party: every sampled address answers under vastnet.net, using the operator's own ip<n>.<block>.vastnet.net template, with an admin.noc.vastnet.net management host in the mix. That matters more than it might seem. Scattered small prefixes with no rDNS, or rDNS pointing at unrelated third parties, is the shape of an address broker; self-registered space with consistent operator-owned reverse DNS is a real network that simply happens to be small.

What the space actually carries cannot be resolved from routing alone — the PTR template is generic, so it names no servers and no subscriber pools. The operator's own description (colocation plus wireless access, serving the New York metro and Denver) is the only evidence of customer type, and self-description is weaker evidence than inventory, so this card does not claim more than that.

A /21, two /22s and a /24 across two legacy ranges is the whole footprint: enough for a colocation floor and some point-to-point wireless customers, not enough to be anything larger.
