AS10834 Telefonica de Argentina

AS10834 is registered to Telefónica de Argentina, the incumbent fixed-line operator for the southern half of the country and one of the two companies carved out of the state monopoly ENTel at privatisation.

What it's used for

Internet service on Telefónica's Argentine fixed network. RIS sees 85 announced IPv4 prefixes carrying about 373,504 addresses, plus one IPv6 /32 (2800:381::/32), against 24 observed BGP neighbours. That is a large address footprint with a modest peer count: an operator serving its own customers, not a wholesale transit business, which at this size would show peers in the hundreds.

Almost all of the sampled reverse DNS falls under advance.com.ar — Advance was Telefónica de Argentina's internet-access brand, the country's first ISP to pass 100,000 dial-up subscribers. The host<n>.advance.com.ar pattern is the network's default PTR template rather than a per-service one, so it identifies the operator but says little about any individual block's use. Where customers have overridden it, the names are institutional and corporate (a national university, satellite and business-services providers) rather than consumer, which points at statically-assigned customer space more than a dial-up or DSL pool.

Notable

The space is a museum of the early Latin American internet: several 200.x /16s and /17s from the era when LACNIC allocations were still handed out generously, plus 209.13.0.0/16. One sampled PTR still carries an infovia.com.ar PPP hostname, a survivor of the 1990s Argentine national dial-up access platform.
