AS10596 JETNET

JETNET is held by Beckman Software Engineering, a Ventura, California networking consultancy that also operates as BeckNet and has a long history of building regional Internet providers on California's central coast. The AS carries the jet.net network its name refers to.

What it's used for

RIS observes 9 IPv4 prefixes carrying 2,304 addresses and one IPv6 prefix, 2602:f68d::/40, against 1 observed BGP neighbour. Eight of the nine prefixes are consecutive /24s out of 206.83.0.0; the ninth, 192.100.4.0/24, is an older stray. Single-homed, small, contiguous — a local provider, not a carrier.

The reverse DNS is the interesting part, because it is not uniform. Some addresses wear the operator's own template (5.6-83-206.a.jet.net, and switch0.sb.becknet.com on a piece of infrastructure), but individual /24s resolve under entirely separate business names — a Santa Barbara wireless operator, a local IT services firm, a software company. That is what a small provider's space looks like when it hands each customer a block and delegates the reverse zone to them: the PTRs name the tenants, not the holder.

Registration and infrastructure rDNS are both first-party, which is what separates a real if untidy operator from the address-broker shape that superficially resembles it. The customer names here are local businesses with actual web presences, reachable through one upstream, in one town — small-town ISP economics, preserved in the routing table since the 1990s.
