UARK-FAYETTEVILLE is the University of Arkansas, the state's flagship land-grant research university in Fayetteville. The AS carries the campus network.

What it's used for

The routing inventory is about as clean as an end-site gets: a single IPv4 prefix, 130.184.0.0/16 (65,536 addresses), plus a single IPv6 prefix, 2604:fc00::/32, and one observed neighbour in RIS. Nothing here resembles a carrier. A transit network peers with hundreds or thousands of ASes and announces fragmented space picked up over time; this is one classic /16 held by one institution and announced as one route.

The /16 is the university's public campus space, covering wired and wireless client networks, labs, and university-run servers. Public documentation from the university's IT services describes campus hosts as living at 130.184.x.x, with much of the building network migrated behind private RFC 1918 space and NAT, so the announced /16 is now a mix of directly addressed hosts and translation endpoints rather than a fully populated flat range.

Reverse DNS returned nothing for the two addresses sampled here, which is a sample and not a finding. Draw no conclusion from it either way.

The IPv6 allocation is a full /32, which is the size normally handed to a network operator rather than to a single end site. Universities of this vintage often hold operator-scale IPv6 space because they address a campus the way an ISP addresses a region, subnetting per building and per department.
