SIMPLENET is registered to Simple Network Communications, Inc. — SimpleNet, one of the earliest commercial web hosts, running a San Diego data centre since 1998. The space it announces today carries the e-commerce hosting estate of Miva, Inc., the San Diego shopping-cart software vendor behind Miva Merchant.

Shared, dedicated and e-commerce web hosting. RIS sees 7 announced IPv4 prefixes totalling 24,320 addresses, built around two /19s (216.188.160.0/19, 209.132.96.0/19), a /20, and smaller blocks down to 204.10.64.0/24. No IPv6 is announced, and only 1 neighbour is observed.

Notable

This is unambiguously hosting, and the reverse DNS is what settles it. Eight of the nine sampled addresses — spread across four different prefixes — resolve to static-assignment.mivamerchant.net. A single generic PTR repeated across an entire address range is the classic fingerprint of a server farm handing out addresses from a pool: every customer store gets an IP, none of them gets a bespoke hostname. Subscriber networks look nothing like this; they template the IP into the name.

The one observed neighbour matters too. A network with 24,000 addresses and a single upstream is a destination, not a carrier — it sells capacity on its own machines, not transit across someone else's.

Interesting

The odd 204.10.64.0/24 resolves to rtr-atl-int1-l0.net.hostasaurus.com, a router in Atlanta. Hostasaurus was a rival Miva Merchant host that Miva acquired outright in 2011; a decade and a half on, its routers still answer to their old name inside SimpleNet's AS — three merged hosting companies visible in one routing table.
