AS10420 Banco de Mexico

The Autonomous System of Banco de México, Mexico's central bank and the

issuer of the peso. This is the bank's own institutional network, not a service

sold to anyone else.

What it's used for

• Corporate and operational connectivity for the central bank: staff offices, regional branches, public-facing sites and the systems behind Mexico's payment and clearing infrastructure.
• Reaching the bank's counterparties in the Mexican financial system over its own routed address space rather than through a commercial ISP's pool.

Notable

• Government / public-institution network, not a carrier. RIS sees 101 IPv4 prefixes carrying roughly 25,856 addresses, but only 2 observed BGP neighbours. That combination is the giveaway: a wholesale carrier of any size peers with hundreds to thousands of ASes because selling reachability is the product. Two neighbours means two upstream transit providers and nobody buying transit from Banxico — the classic multihomed end-site shape.
• Everything sits inside a single contiguous block, 170.70.0.0/16, sliced into a long list of /24s. Deaggregating a held block that finely is normal for an institution that wants per-site traffic engineering across its own upstreams, and it explains why the prefix count is so high against a fairly small address count. It is not a sign of scattered, brokered space.

Interesting

• A central bank running its own AS is a deliberate resilience choice: monetary and payment systems cannot be allowed to inherit a single ISP's outage or its routing policy, so the institution holds the addresses and the AS number itself.
