AS10417 Fundacao de Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa

AS10417 is registered to the Fundação de Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa (Fundep), the research support foundation created in 1975 that manages the administrative and financial side of research, teaching and extension projects for the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). It sits on the Pampulha campus in Belo Horizonte.

RIS observes two IPv4 prefixes carrying 32,768 addresses and no IPv6: 200.236.128.0/18 and 200.238.192.0/18. Two clean /18s from LACNIC space, announced whole and undeaggregated, is the profile of an institution that received a block, uses it internally, and has no reason to play traffic-engineering games with it.

The reverse DNS is decisive about what the space actually carries: sampled addresses resolve as 5-192-238-200.rsf.ufmg.br and 5-224-238-200.rsf.ufmg.br. These are UFMG host names. The foundation is the registrant; the university is the user.

Notable

The kind is education, and this is a case where the rDNS beats the legal name rather than the other way round. "Fundação de Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa" tells you nothing on its own. ufmg.br PTRs across the announced blocks tell you the addresses serve a federal university's campus network.

Two observed BGP neighbours completes the picture: a university that multi-homes lightly, almost certainly onto the Brazilian national research network, and provides transit to nobody. Nothing here is a commercial ISP or hosting operation.
