FIBERCAST is FiberCast Corporation, a New Hampshire ISP and cable operator

founded in 1993 (originally as Global Information) and headquartered in Manchester.

It is the local internet, TV and voice provider for the far north of the state —

Colebrook, Pittsburg, Stewartstown, Stratford, Columbia — and parts of Vermont.

What it's used for

• Residential and small-business broadband: fiber-to-the-home, cable/HFC internet, and TV and voice services across rural northern New England.
• The reverse DNS reads as a subscriber access network end to end. 5.28.customer.FiberCast.net, 5.25.hsd.fibercast.net (hsd = high-speed data, the standard cable-industry label for internet subscribers) and 5.30.pon.FiberCast.net / 5.12.sdd.pon.fibercast.net (PON = passive optical network, i.e. FTTH) are exactly the naming an eyeball ISP puts on customer space.

Notable

• Eyeball ISP, not carrier or hosting. RIS sees 30 IPv4 prefixes / 17,408 addresses announced with 4 observed BGP neighbours. Four neighbours means FiberCast buys transit; it does not sell it. The many /24s carved out of 216.177.0.0/19 are per-town and per-technology serving areas, which is how a small operator segments an access network.

Interesting

• Some space in the AS answers under firstlight.net and g4.net — Northeast regional carriers. This is a good illustration of the rule that rDNS shows what the space carries, not who holds it: those names reflect FiberCast's carrier relationships and acquired assets, not a change of ownership of the AS.
