AS10322 ERCOT-ISO

ERCOT-ISO is the network of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the independent system operator that runs the Texas electric grid — scheduling generation, clearing the wholesale market and keeping the interconnection in balance for most of the state.

What it's used for

ERCOT's own corporate and market-facing systems: the public web presence, the market-participant portals that generators, retailers and utilities log into, and the internet edge of an organisation whose real work happens on private, out-of-band control networks that never appear in BGP.

Classified business (enterprise), deliberately, and the reasoning is worth stating because the obvious call is government. ERCOT is not a state agency: it is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by its own 12-member board, that happens to be overseen by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the legislature. Its members are private generators, co-ops, retailers and municipal utilities. Quasi-public function, private corporate entity — and the network is that entity's.

Routing confirms an enterprise, not an operator. RIS observes 5 IPv4 prefixes carrying 1,024 addresses — a single 66.128.16.0/22 plus its four constituent /24s, announced separately — behind 2 BGP neighbours. One small block, deaggregated for path steering across two upstreams, is the signature of an organisation that consumes connectivity for itself.

Interesting

A /22 is a startlingly small internet footprint for the operator of a grid serving 27 million people. That is the point: the SCADA and market-settlement systems that actually matter are deliberately kept off the public internet, so almost nothing of ERCOT's true scale is visible in the routing table.
