AS10297 ENET-2

ENET-2 belongs to eNET Inc. of Columbus, Ohio — the first independent commercial ISP in Columbus (founded 1994) and today a dedicated-server, VPS, colocation and cloud provider. It is also the parent of XLHost, the brand under which most of this address space is actually sold.

Hosting. The AS fronts eNET's Columbus data centre footprint: dedicated servers, virtual private servers, colocation and dedicated internet access.

Notable

The reverse DNS settles the kind. Almost every sampled address across every announced block resolves to xlhdns.com — 209-190-64-5.xlhdns.com, 173-45-64-5.xlhdns.com, 206-222-0-5.xlhdns.com, 64-79-64-5.xlhdns.com, 207-182-128-5.xlhdns.com. That is the generated-PTR pattern of a hosting provider assigning addresses to machines rather than to subscribers: no dsl-, pool-, dhcp- or cust- tokens anywhere, just IP-derived names under the hosting brand's own zone. One sampled name, stuff.cmh.ee.net, carries the cmh airport code for Columbus and eNET's original ee.net domain — the operator's own infrastructure.

RIS observes 18 IPv4 prefixes carrying 90,112 addresses, one IPv6 prefix (2001:1828::/32), and only 3 BGP neighbours. A large address pool behind very few adjacencies is exactly the hosting shape: lots of servers, a couple of transit providers, and no need to peer widely. A transit carrier holding 90k addresses would show neighbours in the hundreds.

Interesting

The space is aggregated into large, contiguous blocks — a /17, a /18 and four /19s — which is the address history of a provider that grew by requesting big allocations for server farms, not by absorbing scraps.
