AS10269 Belize Telemedia Limited

AS10269 is Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), the incumbent telecommunications operator of Belize — the country's dominant fixed-line and broadband carrier, and, through its DigiCell brand, its largest mobile operator. This is the national eyeball network.

What it's used for

Consumer and business internet across Belize. The AS announces 34 IPv4 prefixes totalling roughly 66,600 addresses and 15 IPv6 prefixes, including a 2800:410::/32 from LACNIC broken into a spread of /36s — a serious v6 deployment, not a placeholder.

Reverse DNS makes the product mix explicit. Sampled addresses resolve to btl-san-pedro-dsl-5.btl.net, btl-dsltesting-moody-5.btl.net and btl-dedicated-links-5.btl.net under BTL's own btl.net zone: DSL access pools named by exchange (San Pedro is on Ambergris Caye), alongside a separate range for dedicated business circuits. A further sample resolves to cache.google.com — a Google Global Cache node sitting inside BTL's network, which is what a national ISP installs to keep YouTube and Play traffic off an expensive international transit link. That cache is a strong eyeball tell in its own right: caches are placed where the audience is.

Notable

This is an eyeball network and the routing agrees. Roughly 66,600 addresses with only five observed BGP neighbours is a national incumbent in a small market: a couple of international transit providers, a regional peer or two, and nothing resembling the hundreds of adjacencies a wholesale carrier accumulates. For a country of Belize's population, this AS is effectively the consumer internet.
