AS10167 HANVIT-AS HANVIT BANK

HANVIT-AS is registered to Hanvit Bank — a name that has not existed since

2002. Hanvit was the entity formed when Hanil Bank and Korea Commercial Bank

merged in 1999 under the post-crisis bank restructuring; it absorbed Peace Bank

in 2001 and rebranded as Woori Bank in April 2002. The AS handle simply never

followed the rebrand, which is a good reminder that a registry name is a

historical artefact, not a statement about who runs the network today.

What it's used for

• Enterprise banking connectivity: branch and ATM networks, internal systems and the bank's internet-facing services.

Notable

This is a business network, and its prefix list is the interesting part. The

pack shows 27 announced IPv4 prefixes holding 6,912 addresses — every one of them

a /24 — scattered across completely unrelated blocks: 110.15.9.0/24,

125.129.145.0/24, 61.34.27.0/24, 1.232.5.0/24, 221.140.14.0/24,

14.33.203.0/24 and so on.

That scatter looks superficially like an address-broker footprint, but it is not.

It is the signature of a branch network: a Korean bank with sites all over the

country takes a provider-assigned /24 at each major location from whichever

carrier serves it, then announces them all from its own AS so the addresses stay

the bank's regardless of circuit. The three observed BGP neighbours confirm the

end-site role — a multi-homed enterprise, not a provider.

• The address blocks span several different Korean carriers' ranges, which is exactly what you would expect from a bank that buys local access per branch.
