AS10001 MICSNET Mics Network Corporation

MICSNET is Mics Network Corporation, a cable-television operator based in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, which has sold cable TV, broadband internet and telephone service to households in and around Okazaki since the early 1990s. AS10001 is the access network that carries that internet product.

What it's used for

Consumer and small-business broadband over the company's cable plant. The AS announces 10 IPv4 prefixes totalling about 36,900 addresses and one IPv6 /32. Every sampled address resolves into Mics' own subscriber-pool naming — i49-128-128-005.us.mics.ne.jp, i219-124-0-005.us.mics.ne.jp, and so on — the mechanical encode-the-IP-into-the-hostname pattern that Japanese access ISPs use for customer address pools. One sample lands under catvmics.ne.jp, the company's cable-service domain, which ties the routed space directly to the CATV business rather than to any hosting side-line.

This is an eyeball network, and the neighbour count settles it. Roughly 36,900 addresses with exactly one observed BGP neighbour describes a single-homed regional access ISP that buys transit upstream and does not sell it. A wholesale or transit carrier holding comparable space would show hundreds of adjacencies; a hosting provider would show server-style rDNS and a mix of peers. Neither is present here.

Interesting

The .us. label in hostnames like i202-75-112-005.us.mics.ne.jp is a subdomain of the operator's zone, not a country signal — it is a POP or platform label inside mics.ne.jp, and the network is entirely Japanese. Reading it as United States space would be a geolocation error. Also worth noting: Mics has been a consolidated subsidiary of Oliver Corporation, an Okazaki furniture manufacturer, since 2004 — an ownership quirk that says nothing about how the address space is used.
